As if you didn't already know it, God created men and women very differently. A man sometimes needs "Divine Intervention" to better understand his wife's needs, how to support her, how to listen to her and above all, how to make her feel loved and cherished.
In Ephesians 5:25 it says, "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her". Ephesians 5:28 says, "In this same way, husbands ought to love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself".
Men tend to "compartmentalize" their lives (work, buddies, family, church, sports, etc.) and frequently struggle grasping what it means to fully love and cherish their wives. Too often, men interact with their wives just as they would with any other individuals in their lives. This interaction can be impersonal/feel impersonal and their wives will sense and feel this. Men need God's wisdom to become more like the man "God intends us to be", and the "husband" described so clearly in Scripture.
The poems below are my attempts to express love for my spouse. We men will vary greatly in our "writing ability", but I think the key is "our attempt" to put our love into words. I believe if we honestly write from the heart, our wives will understand and accept our words of love, support and admiration.
For "individual men", I suggest you try be more proactive in letting your wife know daily how much you love her. It can be a few words or a soft reassuring touch sometime during the day or evening. Try to write her a love letter. As mentioned above, it doesn't have to be a literary work of art, it just has to be from your heart. Of course, "praying for help" is always needed and helpful.
For a "Men's Small Group", this is a topic that can be discussed a little during every meeting. We frequently have good intentions, but in our busy, everyday world we can be easily detracted. Discussing this in your Men's Group or just with another man, provides the opportunity to extend support and encouragement to each other.
